Hi Fit Culture community! My name is Hope and for the past 17 years, I have been bringing my love and knowledge of exercise to individuals, small groups, classes and teams. I have taught step, body sculpting, spin, boot camp, and a class I created called Spinnerval-intervals of spin, sport drills and weights. For the past few years, I have had a blast working with kids coaching cross country and track at Grass Valley Charter School. As the founder of Fit Culture Studio, Joey takes pride in motivating his clients by encouraging them to achieve their personal goals and do their best. Joey’s passion for functional movement, athletic performance, and overall wellness are what inspired him to pursue a career in fitness and wellness. A graduate with a degree in Applied Nutrition, B.S. from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, Joey focuses on inspiring wellness in others who enjoy living a healthy, active lifestyle. He optimizes his client’s fitness and wellness through a specialized signature approach that incorporates five different elements of fitness principles that include upper body strength, lower body strength, heart health conditioning, core and balance, and stretch and recovery. When Joey is not developing fitness and nutrition programs, he likes to spend time running the many local trails and riding both mountain and road bikes. In addition to having a true love for just about all sports, Joey can be found camping and fishing, dining at one of the many restaurants in Nevada County, and playing with his dog in the park. He is always up for having a great time with people who share a thirst for living an active, healthy lifestyle.
John Hendrickson has been a fitness and sports enthusiast all of his life. His sports background includes football, basketball, swimming, golf, and tennis. As a junior tennis player he was state ranked in Texas and Colorado. John played collegiate tennis where he was also ranked. After graduating from California State Hayward with a BS in Recreation, John became tennis professional and Tennis Director. He has over 20 years of teaching experience. After relocating to Nevada County John followed his passion for fitness and became a Personal Trainer so he can continue to motivate and teach the lifestyle he so enjoys. John is a NASM certified personal trainer, an AAHFRP Post Rehab Conditioning Specialist and a USPTA Tennis Professional.
Hi my name is Jessie. Im fairly new to Nevada County and it’s been exciting exploring this beautiful area. I’m originally from the east coast and shortly after graduating high school my love for adventure drew me out to the wild wild west where I was able to take my passion for outdoor sports to the Sierra mountains. I have always been involved in athletics. From competitive gymnastics to racing boarder-cross for the USA Snowboard Association. I love and have taught different types of dance for a number of years. I have received my ACE certified personal trainers certificate and I am currently enrolled in the fitness trainer and nutrition certificate program at Sierra College. My goal as a personal trainer is to help clients adopt healthier lifestyles and encourage wellness to enhance quality of life. With the awareness of everyday challenges that can get in the way of change; I’m dedicated to empowering individuals through education, personal experience,and physical activity designed for the individual’s fitness and health goals. With my enthusiasm for exercise and fitness, I hope to inspire others to lead active and healthy lifestyles.
Soozie Yearwood is a certified AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America) Group Fitness Instructor, and has been teaching adult and children’s fitness classes since 2012. Having moved to Nevada County in 2015, Soozie previously managed a full service gym before opening her own fitness studio in Plumas County. Ms. Yearwood is Pilates Mat certified through NESTA (National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association), and has been trained and holds licenses for teaching Zumba, Zumba Kids, Zumba Sentao, Zumba Toning and Beachbody’s PiYo Live program. Soozie holds online group challenges as a Wellness Coach focusing on healthy habits, nutrition and fitness. Her goal is to design classes that cater to fitness enthusiast who want to be challenged while offering modifications so that everyone, even beginners, can join in at their own pace and get an amazing workout. She loves to help motivate, inspire, and help people achieve their goals, one class at a time. Soozie is honored to be working with the Fit Culture Studio team of coaches and the amazing clients.
Steven Conrad grew up in Grass Valley and has been a sports competitor his entire life. Steven competed primarily as a track and field athlete, where he earned a scholarship to UC Berkeley as a decathlete. While competing, Steve placed 11th in the Decathlon at the NCAA National Championships. For the last 10 years, Steve has worked as a personal trainer and athletic coach for various high school and junior college teams and worked as a Strength and Conditioning coach for two club teams at Cal. Steven graduated from UC Berkeley in 2008 and went on to Graduate School at Chico State to study Kinesiology. Steven continues his studies independently, always seeking to refine his methods and dispel out-dated fitness and coaching myths. He believes that proper diet and strength training will help develop and maintain life-long athleticism and prevent injury; no matter the age or experience.
Wendi August has a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, is a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant, and is a Pilates Method Alliance Certified Pilates Teacher. She has been teaching exercise classes for 20 years and has been teaching Pilates since 2005. Wendi completed the mat and apparatus training through STOTT Pilates 2005-2008 and completed a comprehensive Pilates for Rehabilitation teacher training through Polestar Pilates in 2012.
Wendi loves to help others reach their potential in health and wellness. In addition to teaching Pilates, she works at the Cardiac Rehab Center at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. Wendi enjoys being active outside running, biking, backpacking and skiing and has completed several triathlons.
