Hi Fit Culture community! My name is Hope and for the past 17 years, I have been bringing my love and knowledge of exercise to individuals, small groups, classes and teams. I have taught step, body sculpting, spin, boot camp, and a class I created called Spinnerval-intervals of spin, sport drills and weights. For the past few years, I have had a blast working with kids coaching cross country and track at Grass Valley Charter School. As the founder of Fit Culture Studio, Joey takes pride in motivating his clients by encouraging them to achieve their personal goals and do their best. Joey’s passion for functional movement, athletic performance, and overall wellness are what inspired him to pursue a career in fitness and wellness. A graduate with a degree in Applied Nutrition, B.S. from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, Joey focuses on inspiring wellness in others who enjoy living a healthy, active lifestyle. He optimizes his client’s fitness and wellness through a specialized signature approach that incorporates different elements of fitness principles that include upper body strength, lower body strength, heart health conditioning, core and balance, stretch and recovery, and Precision Nutrition. When Joey is not developing fitness and nutrition programs, he likes to spend time running the many local trails and riding both mountain and road bikes. In addition to having a true love for just about all sports, Joey can be found camping and fishing, dining at one of the many restaurants in Nevada County, and playing with his dog in the park. He is always up for having a great time with people who share a thirst for living an active, healthy lifestyle.
Soozie Yearwood is a certified AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America) Group Fitness Instructor, and has been teaching adult and children’s fitness classes since 2012. Having moved to Nevada County in 2015, Soozie previously managed a full service gym before opening her own fitness studio in Plumas County. Ms. Yearwood is Pilates Mat certified through NESTA (National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association), and has been trained and holds licenses for teaching Zumba, Zumba Kids, Zumba Sentao, Zumba Toning and Beachbody’s PiYo Live program. Soozie holds online group challenges as a Wellness Coach focusing on healthy habits, nutrition and fitness. Her goal is to design classes that cater to fitness enthusiast who want to be challenged while offering modifications so that everyone, even beginners, can join in at their own pace and get an amazing workout. She loves to help motivate, inspire, and help people achieve their goals, one class at a time. Soozie is honored to be working with the Fit Culture Studio team of coaches and the amazing clients.
Dear Fit Culture Friends, Originally from Southern California, I moved to the bay area in 1983. Before the birth of my son in 1992, I moved to the town of Mariposa, California where I opened my Jazzercise studio in 1994. After 20 years of owning and operating a successful Jazzercise Franchise and my son going off to college, I decided to make a change. I sold my business in October 2014 and moved back to Southern California to live in Orange County. There, I continued to teach Jazzercise in Laguna Hills at Sway Ballroom Dance Studio.
Soon after moving, I attended my first Pilates class and absolutely loved it. I was so inspired that I enrolled in the Pilates/Dance Conditioning Instructor Certificate of Achievement program at Orange Coast College. I graduated from Orange Coast with honors and received my certificate to teach Pilates in May of 2016.
I am dedicated to inspiring people to exercise and be active. I believe we can create stronger bodies and lead happier, healthier lives through movement. My goal is to make a difference in someone’s life every day through the classes I teach.
After several years of visiting the Grass Valley and Nevada City area, I fell in love with it and decided to move here in February 2016. I continue to teach Jazzercise and Pilates, and I am excited to become part of the team at Fit Culture.

Kristen is passionate about living an active and healthy lifestyle and desires to help others do the same. Whether advanced or just starting out, young or old, she believes people are often capable of much more than they think and is determined to help them realize this potential. Her knowledge and love of fitness has allowed her to successfully work with weight loss, sports performance, children, senior, and general strength and conditioning clients. She is NASM certified with specializations in spin, TRX and Precision Nutrition. Believing encouragement and accountability are keys to success, she strives to make every workout fun, challenging and efficient. She has a passion for spin, HIIT, nutrition, burpees and anything else that will work up a sweat. Aside from training, Kristen can be found spending time outdoors with her husband and baby boy. She loves hiking, backpacking, sports of all kinds, and is excited to be a part of FitCulture!
I have deep roots in Nevada County, and its fitness community. From participant to instructor to manager, I have been involved in fitness for over 20 years. I am lucky enough to say that I was born and raised in Nevada County. My parents came to Nevada County in the late 1950’s, and I am the youngest of three children. After college, I traveled for a year, returned home to visit, and met my husband, Paul Aguilar. We have two children: Patrick (25) and Annie (22).
After earning my teaching credential in English and Physical Education, I taught English for eight years while also teaching group fitness classes. I am now pursuing my Master’s degree in Marriage, Child, and Family counseling. I am certified in Bodypump, Bodycombat, Bodyflow, Bodystep, CXWORKS, Cycling, TRX Group, TRX Sports Medicine, RIPPED, Inferno Hot Pilates, Personal Training, MOSSA Active, and 200 Hour Power Vinyasa Flow. Outside the gym, I love road cycling, hiking, and backpacking.
I came to the fitness party later in life, but once I started, I never looked back. I believe that physical activity is the key to the well being of body, mind, and soul.
